How did you celebrate National Gymnastics Day? Coordinated by USA Gymnastics, the governing body for the sport of gymnastics in the US, gymnasts around the country synchronized their watches, put on their funkiest leotards and at the same moment, upended themselves in whatever style of handstand they wanted for a minute, or as much of a minute as they could manage.
It was all part of an attempt set a world-record in simultaneous handstanding. In addition, USA Gymnastics raised funds through pledges for Children’s Miracle Network.
These photo show the action at Arizona Sunrays gym in Phoenix at 10am, where over 300 kids of all ages pointed their toes skyward, or at angles. Some kids maintained their handstand for the entire minute while others performed multiple handstands.
One eyewitness, Sunrays co-owner Julie Witenstein, reports that Dan Witenstein did a handstand. RAK awaits photo confirmation.
