A two-mile indoor mall walk to benefit DrugFreeAZ.org will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Registration opens at 8 a.m.

The annual event raises awareness about the importance of drug prevention and the key role of parents and caregivers in helping to raise healthy, drug-free children. Funds raised support DrugFreeAz.org’s prevention and education programs.

One such program is Guiding Good Choices, a free, five-part workshop (once per week for five weeks) for parents or caregivers of children ages 9 to 14. The program seeks to promote healthy youth development and to prevent teen alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by helping parents gain skills to:

  • Strengthen family bonds
  • Establish and reinforce clear and consistent guidelines and expectations for behavior
  • Teach children skills to resist peer pressure
  • Improve family management practices
  • Reduce family conflicts

Register for the mall walk online by Thursday, Oct. 4 for just $28 per person (ages 18 and older). Registration fees the day of the event are $35 per person. Walkers 17 and younger may participate at no cost but must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. Learn more.
