A few spots remain open for Camp Paz, a weekend-long overnight camp that helps grieving children ages 6 to 17. The camp is hosted by Arizona-based nonprofit Stepping Stones of Hope, and takes place this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 & 14 at Whispering Hope Ranch in the cool pines of Payson.
Camp Paz for Kids (paz means peace in Spanish) was created in 1999 to give children whose lives have been disrupted by the death of a loved one and who may be struggling with their feelings a chance to be around other kids who share a similar experience. The camp provides a neutral, safe environment where friendships can be created and profound healing can begin.
While at camp, children are divided into age groups to experience a variety of activities, including music, animal interactions, humor and art. Themes of the weekend include trust, vulnerability, interpersonal relationships, guilt, anger, family dynamics, memories, hopes and dreams.
Stepping Stone of Hope provides comprehensive support-based programs, continuing care and education to grieving children, families, adults and communities.
