The Arizona Highway Patrol Association (AHPA) annual Comfort Bear Toy Drive continues through Sunday, April 7. Famous Dave’s restaurants in Mesa, Peoria, Chandler and Gilbert are collecting donations of new teddy bears officer can use to console children impacted by tragedy.
Famous Dave’s — best known for hand-rubbed, hickory-smoked, pit-style barbecue — is offering a free two-meat combination lunch meal for every new stuffed toy donation.
“Car accidents, domestic abuse situations and violent crime impact everyone, and when there’s children involved, the ramifications are especially difficult,” according to Sgt. Jimmy Chavez, AHPA president. “The supply of comfort bears has dwindled to a level never seen by the AHPA and the need is greater than ever.” Comfort Bears are usually kept in the trunks of law enforcement vehicles for immediate access when officers discover children at the scene of a trauma.
Drop off donations at any of the following Famous Dave’s locations:

16148 N. 83rd Ave. in Peoria
