Mari Koerner, PhD, says she had no idea what she was doing when she first began teaching. As dean of the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University, her philosophy on training education students was influenced by those early teaching experiences.

In our podcast, Koerner talks about the impact of new technologies, the benefits of getting a brand new teacher and why parents should step out of the way and let kids have a crack at solving problems on their own.

Read the related story to learn Koerner’s thoughts on how teacher preparation has changed over the years, how to raise the status of teachers and what she values about the Teach for America program.
