MARK DIX – The challenges of childhood music lessons

Mark Dix, viola player for the Phoenix Symphony and founder of The Downtown Chamber Series, was hooked on playing professionally during a summer festival experience shortly before he left for college.

Now dad to Louie, 7, and Naomi, 9, he shares some tips for parents on how to make music a part of family life: whether it be music lessons for kids or knowing when a child is ready to attend, and enjoy, a concert performance. You’ll also enjoy Mark playing viola in the background.

Read the related story to learn what Dix thought when Louie began to lose interest in the violin, how he responded and how he nurtures his kids’ love of music.
