St. Patrick's Day craft, how to shine pennies Make a lucky charm for St. Patrick’s Day using these tricks to make pennies shine:

Mix ½ cup vinegar and 1 teaspoon salt in a non-metal bowl. Stir until the salt dissolves.

Place eight to 10 pennies in the solution for about 30 seconds. Remove, rinse and dry.

Getting those pennies to shine is not just luck: The acidic vinegar is reacting with the salt to remove the copper oxide that makes pennies look dull. For pennies made after 1982 (with zinc, not copper), rub with an eraser to make them shine.

For extra fun, clean pennies stamped with a special year—like a birthday or anniversary. Then use glue dots to attach the pennies to free printable bookmarks, available at
