Around Arizona: Statewide family events in January

Look for First Day Hikes around the state of Arizona on Monday, Jan. 1. Part of a nationwide effort to get people outdoors and healthier, America’s State Parks will offer hundreds of free, guided hikes on New Year’s Day. Holiday Riordan Mansion Tours (through Jan. 2). The mansion is decorated in turn-of-the-century style with wreaths, garlands, greenery and a towering fir trimmed with old-fashioned ornaments.


Havasu Balloon Festival and Fair (Jan. 19-21). Hot-air balloon mass ascension, night glow, sky divers, arts and crafts, antique and classic cars, carnival rides, dog shows, kids events, kite balloon rides (tethered and untethered), live entertainment and more.

Grand Canyon Pro Rodeo Association & Little Delbert Days (Jan. 27-28). Old-time country fair and rodeo that includes gold panning, roping arena, fishing hole, petting zoo, mechanical bull, cutest cowboy and cowgirl contests and barrel races.


Dillinger Days (Jan. 19-20). The weekend begins with the 7 p.m. Friday Dillinger Speakeasy, followed by family-friendly festivities 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday that include re-enactments of Dillinger’s capture, vintage car shows, live music, tours of the Hotel Congress and downtown walking tours.

Mineral Madness Sale and Family Fun (Jan. 13-14). Dig in! Minerals, fossils and gemstones for sale, jewelry demonstrations, family activities and free rock and mineral samples for children.

Downtown Jazz Fiesta (Jan. 15). A free all-day concert with multiple stages, indoors and out. Ticketed acts during World-Class Jazz week in Tucson (Jan. 11-21) include Sheila E., and Trumpeter Arturo Sandoval with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.


Wings Over Willcox Birding & Nature Festival (Jan. 11-14). Nature expo with educational booths, seminars, workshops, excursions, field trips and bird watching. Times and fees vary.
