Where to get a sports physical

EDITOR'S NOTE: The following information supplements our August 2008 article, "Physicals Keep Athletes in the Game."

Sports physicals are required for student athletes who want to be involved in any athletic activity, from elementary to high school sports and beyond. Your family doctor or pediatrician can perform your child’s sports physical examination but here is a list of clinics, hospitals, and organizations that have qualified doctors willing to provide athletic physicals for a modest fee.

  • 1st Care Medical Clinic

  • Physico

  • NextCare Urgent Care

  • Phoenix Children’s Hospital East Valley Urgent Care offers $25 examinations from 5 to 11 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 11 p.m. on weekends. No appointment is necessary. The physicals include a standard ear, nose, and eye exam. Forms of payment accepted include cash, check, or credit card as funds are not applied to insurance. Parents are reminded to bring all documents and forms required by the school or institution. Southwest corner of Southern Avenue and Higley Road in Mesa. 480-833-KIDS.

  • The Little Clinic
