Weekend events for families: Nov. 24-26

It’s Black Friday! Join the early-morning bargain shoppers or take in festive tree-lighting ceremonies and official holiday season kick-offs all weekend.

It’s Glendale Glitters Spectacular Weekend!

1. Glitters Spectacular Weekend. Downtown Glendale light up with 1.5 million twinkling lights. Enjoy holiday entertainment, food, crafts and horse-drawn carriage rides.

2. Free ice skating at Tempe Marketplace. Children 5 and older can lace up the skates for free holiday skating Friday-Sunday near Dave & Busters. Skates provided. Bring Glitters Spectacular Weekend.

3. Scottsdazzle Tree Lighting. A monthlong holiday event, Scottsdazzle kicks off with this tree-lighting ceremony and sing-along. The tree boasts more than a million customizable lights and will glow nightly on the Soleri Bridge.

4. The Santa Social. Enjoy free photos with Santa, a free caricature artist and face painters plus music and entertainment at Scottsdale Quarter’s annual tree lighting ceremony in The Quad.

5. ZooLights. Millions of lights shine throughout the grounds, along with a three-story holiday tree, carousel and camel rides, lakeside music-in-motion shows, nightly snowfall and photos with Santa Claus.

6. PJ Masks Live! Catboy, Owlette and Gekko try to save the day from sneaky villains Romeo, Night Ninja and Luna Girl. This live show includes plenty of leaping, flipping and climbing, along with everyone’s favorite music from the animated Disney Jr. show.

Mermaid breakfast at OdySea.

7. Mermaid Breakfast. Your family can eat the most important meal of the day with the OdySea Aquarium Mermaids. Breakfast includes early entrance to OdySea Aquarium, a delicious pancake breakfast and a first look and interaction with the mermaids.

8. Pompeii: The Exhibition” at Arizona Science Center. Learn about life in Pompeii both before and after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius at the Arizona Science Center’s new immersive international exhibition that opens this weekend.

9. Storytime with Molly Idle. Join Changing Hands Bookstore (Tempe) for a special storytime with Caldecott Honor-winning author and illustrator Molly Idle and her new children’s book “Santa Rex.”

10. Go, Dog. Go! P.D. Eastman’s book comes to life in a musical dog party! Watch dogs with cars, a moonlit boat ride and a game of ball. Also included are a few life lessons and a lot of barking!
