Chocolate chip, oatmeal, raisin, nut and spice cookies

1 cup raisins

1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening (butter or margarine)
3 eggs
2 cups flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1¾ cups “quick” oatmeal
1 cup nuts or raisins
1 (6-ounce) package chocolate chips

Cook raisins in water 10 minutes (from time stove is turned on). In a mixing bowl, cream brown sugar and shortening, butter or margarine. Add eggs. Pour in the cooled juice from cooked raisins. Beat in flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, baking powder and baking soda. Stir in oatmeal, nuts or raisins and chocolate chips. Form into balls and bake at 375 degrees for eight minutes.
