Miss Rosa, played by Jennifer Pena on PBS  Kids preschool television programming, came to Phoenix from New Jersey last week to meet some of her fans. During program breaks on PBS Kids shows Curious George, Sid the Science KidSuper Why! and Dinosaur Train, Miss Rosa, alternating between Spanish and English, teaches kids through art, song, dance and storytelling.

About 40 kids were in the Grace Lutheran Church Friday morning. They listened to Miss Rosa read a book and the students, from Crockett Elementary and Phoenix Day, acted out the story with her. Both schools were there because they are part of the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) Emergent Leaders’ Program. And, it was a really big day for the Crockett kids — it was their first field trip ever.

Afterward, the kids came up to meet Miss Rosa, have her autograph their PBS Kids fans and choose a high five or a hug.

Miss Rosa also performed at the El Día de los Niños celebration at Margaret T. Hance Park. Organized by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department’s Latino Institute, the event promotes the importance of literacy and education for children.
