Fun runs, walks abound this month to support local causes

The weather is finally great. So get outside and participate in one of the many fun runs this fall throughout metro Phoenix. You’ll get some exercise, help a charity and have a blast. Here’s a quick roundup of October’s fun runs and walks around the Valley, from events that support Girl Scout programs to breast-cancer research and more.

AZ Cancer Village Fun Run (Sat Oct 1). All ages. 5K and 1-mile fun run and post-race expo with live music, vendors, food trucks and cancer resources. Linda’s Wish 5K Walk/Run (Sat Oct 1). All ages. Walk for Hope (Sunday, Oct. 2) 5K breast cancer fundraiser celebrates its 20th anniversary. The walk starts and finishes at SRP, 1600 N. Priest Drive in Tempe, and winds through the Phoenix Zoo. Includes a partner fair and celebration at the zoo with sampling and giveaways. 6:30am registration, 8am walk. $40; $20 ages 3-12; free for ages 2 and younger; includes zoo admission.

AIDS Walk Arizona & 5K Run (Sun Oct 23) Aunt Rita’s Foundation raises funds for local agencies that provide prevention information about and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Open to people of all ages and well-behaved dogs. Free for kids younger than 12, but they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
