The Ultimate Guide to Holiday Events in Arizona: 45+ Christmas Traditions for Families

The Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel Polar Express

From Christmas at the Princess and ZooLights to holiday train rides, drive-through light shows and free hometown celebrations, discover festive family experiences throughout Arizona.

Every family has those holiday traditions the kids look forward to year after year.

Maybe it’s piling everyone into the car to see Christmas lights, visiting Santa at a favorite resort, riding a train to the North Pole or watching your hometown Christmas tree light up for the first time.

Some traditions are big splurges. Others don’t cost a thing. With five kids, I know how quickly holiday outings can add up, especially when you’re paying admission for the entire family. But I also love finding experiences that become the memories our kids talk about long after Christmas is over.

Whether you’re looking for a special holiday getaway, a fun evening close to home or a free Christmas activity, we’ve rounded up more than 40 holiday experiences throughout Arizona for the 2026 season.

Before you go: Dates, prices and activities can change. We’ve included confirmed 2026 information where available, and marked events that are still awaiting updated schedules. Check the event’s website before purchasing tickets or making the drive.

More Arizona Holiday Traditions to Explore

There are plenty of ways to celebrate beyond Christmas lights and Santa visits.

Consider adding a holiday performance of The Nutcracker, a Christmas concert, a local church’s live Nativity, a community menorah lighting, a holiday market or a family volunteer opportunity to your December calendar.

Some of the most meaningful traditions are the simplest: choosing a new ornament each year, making cookies for neighbors, attending a hometown parade or taking the same family photo in front of your favorite Christmas tree.

Tips for Planning Holiday Activities With Kids

Pick one big experience. If your budget allows, choose one special paid attraction your family is excited about rather than feeling pressured to attend every event.

Fill the rest of December with free traditions. Tree lightings, parades, neighborhood lights and community festivals can be just as memorable.

Check what admission includes. Some holiday attractions charge separately for parking, skating, Santa photos, food or other experiences.

Book popular experiences early. Holiday train rides, resort events and prime weekend dates can sell out.

Consider drive-through attractions with little kids. When everyone can stay in the car, you don’t have to worry about strollers, cold weather or getting home past bedtime.

Make it an annual tradition. Take a photo in the same spot each year, let the kids choose one new activity or visit the same favorite event every December.

The goal isn’t to pack the calendar with as much as possible. It’s to find the experiences your family will look forward to doing together.
