Backyard Kickball Expands for Monsoon Season

Friday Night Games Under the Lights Begin August 14

Chandler, AZ — After a successful inaugural spring season that brought dozens of Chandler families together for fun, confidence‐building play, Backyard Kickball is returning with its Monsoon Season, running August 14 through September 18 at Tumbleweed Park.

This season introduces a major upgrade: Friday night games under the lights, offering cooler temperatures, a fun evening atmosphere, and a chance for kids to play after sunset. Games will begin at or after 7:00 PM, giving families heat relief while keeping the same kid‐first, low‐pressure spirit that defined the league’s launch.

Backyard Kickball, a nonprofit and parent‐founded league, was created to give kids ages 7–12 a place to play sports without the stress or intensity often found in traditional youth leagues. The spring season exceeded expectations, with families praising the league’s welcoming environment, supportive culture, and emphasis on fun.

One parent, Sarah, shared how the league transformed her sons’ experience with sports:

“My younger son has always said he ‘hates sports,’ but kickball completely surprised him. By the second week he was making plays, scoring runs, and smiling bigger than I’ve ever seen, all with his older brother cheering him on. Hearing them finish a game saying it was the ‘best ever’ and that they’d improved so much made my parent‐heart sing.”

Building on that momentum, the Monsoon Season will continue offering:

• Five regular‐season games plus playoffs
• Refereed games for structure and fairness.
• A cool Backyard Kickball jersey for every player

• Co‐ed divisions for ages 7–9 and 10–12

“Seeing how much confidence kids gained in just a few weeks this spring was incredible,” said founder Scott Smith. “Families told us again and again that the league felt refreshing. Moving to Friday nights under the lights is the next step in making this experience even more fun for kids.”

Registration is now open through July 29 for $119.99 per child, with fees supporting field use, equipment, and nonprofit league operations to keep youth sports accessible for local families.
