Description

Parent Aid has partnered with the Southern Arizona Child Advocacy Center here in Tucson. Join us as we explore the book, "What Happened to You? Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing" by Bruce D. Perry, MD, PhD & Oprah Winfrey. If you can please also pass this invitation on to anyone who you might think would get some value out of it. Dr. Bruce Perry is one of the leading psychologists on child brain development and how childhood trauma affects the brain over long term development. What has become clear is how childhood trauma profoundly impacts our lives, our social connections, and our experience of life throughout this journey. Dr. Perry shares this information through an interview type process with Oprah Winfrey as she shares candidly many of her own childhood traumas and their impact on her life and experiences.

This Book Club is for PARENTS, CAREGIVERS, & FAMILY SERVICE PROVIDERS: Check your 2025 calendar to resolve to learn about trauma and its effects on children, adults, and family systems. More importantly, learn about the power of resilience and protective factors that bring healing and hope. This is a FREE in-person 11-week commitment that meets on Tuesdays. There are three Sessions to choose from.

The book and study guide are provided. Sessions may be used to renew the foster care license. Each session includes icebreakers, chapter reflections, trauma-informed parenting approaches, and how the five Protective Factors strengthen families. Video clips and small-group activities enhance main ideas from each chapter. Processing the material in the book with others has proven to be invaluable to participants given the feedback received at the end of each series. Please check your calendar to ensure that you can attend all sessions. Sharing this experience with others over 11 weeks adds so much to the learning... and we have seen new connections made along the way! To learn more about the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southern Arizona, please visit cacsoaz.org

Please register here or simply contact Anna Loebe at aloebe@soazadvocacy.org or at 520-724-5448 to enroll. Enrollment is due by the end of the day, Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.
