Description
SandFest at the Children's Museum of Phoenix is Arizona features 200 tons of sand, sand play, sand sculpture competition, music, entertainment and more. Sprinklers and sand toys will add a beachy vibe.
Watch the Sand Guys from Travel Channel’s Sand Masters create a whimsical signature sculpture. Watch as Valley businesses compete for the golden shovel in the sand sculpting competition. (This year’s sand-sculpting competitors are: Barker Pacific Group, DPR Construction, Okland Construction, Plaza Companies and SmithGroup JJR.)
In recognition of the ongoing pandemic, this year’s SandFest event will include safety measures to make the event as safe as possible. This includes reducing the number of sand sculpting teams and allocating two days for the competition to allow teams to stagger their sculpting. All sand teams will be distanced, and all participants will be required to wear masks.
Visitors will be able to cast their vote for best sand sculpture throughout the day on both Friday and Saturday. Mayor Kate Gallego will oversee final judging of the sculpture at 3 p.m. Saturday and will announce the winner.
Entertainment for both days include DJ Cora along with photo opps with the following special guests:
Friday March 12:
- 10-11: The Marvelous Captain
- 11-12: The Little Mermaid
- 12-1: The Polynesian Princess
Saturday March 13:
- 10-11: American Captain
- 11-12: The Polynesian Princess
- 12-1: Spidey Guy
Capacity limits and timed ticketing will ensure safer play. Advance reservations and masks are required. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. $14.95. Children’s Museum of Phoenix, 215 N. Seventh St., Phoenix. 602-253-0501 or childrensmuseumofphoenix.org
Good to know: SandFest is also a fundraiser to benefit the Museum’s Every Child Program. Your family's fun day helps ensure that less fortunate children will also be able to enjoy the Museum's exhibits and activities.
Sand play will remain the centerpiece of Adventure Play, the museum's outdoor adventure experience, through Mother’s Day. Also returning: the Museum's popular foam cannon and Mud Kitchen.
The Museum’s indoor exhibits remain closed until further notice.
