For now, Midwestern University still plans to offer its seven-day Health Careers Institute for High School Students July 9 through Friday, July 17.
But the deadline for applications, originally set for April 1, has been extended to May 15 to accommodate current guidelines for social distancing established by local school districts. Also, applicants no longer need to submit a teacher recommendation letter with their application packet. Further information on the event and application requirements can be found at http://www.midwestern.edu/
“Like all of our fellow community members, Midwestern University is working to adapt to a very fluid situation regarding the ongoing COVID-19 response,” said Tony Johns, from the Midwestern Office of Communications, in a statement.
During the seven-day summer program, Midwestern faculty and advanced students will teach workshops in anatomy, physiology and introductory skills for various health professions, with a focus on preparing for college and what to expect from each profession.Â
The institute offers learning opportunities in anatomy, dental simulation, osteopathic medicine, surgery, physical therapy, optometry, pharmacy, occupation therapy, veterinary medicine, perfusion/cardiovascular science, podiatry, clinical psychology and much more. Participants also will take part in a behind-the-scenes visit to Arrowhead Hospital.Â
Forty-eight high school juniors and seniors will be hand-selected through an application process. Applicants must be current juniors or seniors in high school and available to attend all seven days of the institute.
